Off the cuff answer: Our self WORTH!

Okay I just had one of my favorite sister missionaries who is now in college in the real world ask me what I would tell a bunch of young girls about how to love themselves and think they are beautiful.  This just happens to be one of my favorite topics ever and this was my answer. If you have read my blog a long time or know me you have probably heard all of these before.  But always a good reminder.

  • Okay so off the top of my head I have three answers.

First is when putting on makeup or getting ready or even looking in the mirror, I try to think....okay, i'm getting my outside pretty, now its time to get my inside pretty too.

listening to a conference talk while putting on my makeup really helps. or just the idea of making sure i'm working on both to be beautiful. my outside and my spirit.

The challenge I tell my girls is fuss over yourselves as much as you want at home. try and look your very best its a good thing . But then when you leave the house, don't think one more thing about yourself, focus on other people. don't keep checking the mirror (or posting a million selfies) because when we leave our homes we have prayed to be instruments in thy hands and so its time to get to work! How can we brighten someones day.

okay i thought of another one too.

i love that quote by brigham young that says if you get a bad thought about yourself tell it to go to hell because thats where it came from.

but its true. the bad thoughts are satan and what I have learned is we are in charge of the thoughts we think. yes some crazy ones come in there sometimes, planted by satan, but when you are feeling yourself go down a mental spiral of negative stop yourself. say, no i am not going to think like this.... this takes practice but is so so important because the thoughts we think are often not true at all. so we only want to keep the ones that help us and lift us

okay well i love this trick and i promise it works....have you heard the girls with glasses ? its a website. they had a like self help girl go on that really resonated with me and its so true. She said she phrases all her compliments as questions. Because our brain is like a giant computer. And when we say a statement, it automatically looks for all these reasons to negate the statement. Like if someone says, You are so pretty. you automatically think, ya right ...sad huh why do we do that?

But if someone says....why are you so pretty? You don't know what to say and its a little weird but your brain goes into supermodel and starts looking for all the reasons to validate that question and affirms it. so basically i started asking my girls and friends and family all their compliments so that even if they couldn't give me a verbal response then i was at least planting it in their brains something that really stuck.

the coolest part about this is we can do this about anything, stuff we suck at or even to ourselves. so the girl suggested every morning looking in the mirror and saying to ourselves questions. "Why am I so cute?! why do I always have a smile on my face? Why am I so good at .... get it?

I swear it really works. you feel like a fool but i just mentally ask myself too.

ok last but not least at all. We affirm our worth from God. We can ask him everyday and He will tell us and once we know that God loves and thinks we are perfect and beautiful then we are on fire!!! Or superhero's or something but really unstoppable.

That is really it for me. In my darkest times when I have felt the least lovable and loved, He has told me that He loves me and I can do anything with that knowledge. So all these little tricks work because they are directing us back to Him who thinks we are the most amazing, wonderful women in the world! Our potential with Him is unlimited!

That really is the truth. Why does God love me so much would be a good question to ask ourselves?

    ! I mean

I hope you weren't asking about a non LDS answer but a few of those could still be adapted.

Why are youso beautiful? Why are you so amazing and smart and always seeking good things?! Well I just love you and am always rooting for you even though you already have the best cheerleader in the world in Christ!

God will literally help us feel like a million bucks about ourselves if we listen to Him. And He loves when we do things to have healthy thoughts about ourselves

    hope that helped

I thought of one more thing too that I didn't send her. Comparisons is the thief of joy

really should be comparison kills joy. And that is one thing if we can recognize when we

are having those thoughts we can stop them and choose to think more positively. It takes practice like everything does but everyday get to start fresh and we have the Lords help on our side if we will Let Him In!!

I like the question idea. Lately hearing lots of conference talks saying comparing to others is bad.
