Pep Talks

Right now my girls are in their room listening to Enya as they go to sleep. I told Paisley her dad likes Enya. So now she says Enya, Enya, Daddy. Sounds more like Ayla Ayla Daddy. But I know what she means.

Luke is at cubscouts and Jason is at the church for young mens. Ivy is asleep not sure for the nite or not, will find out in a few hours.

In about five minutes I need to start working on my talk for Sunday (da da dummmm) and just had to write some stuff down.

Everyday is unexpected. That seems so obvious but seriously rarely does a day end how it began and it always changes a few times up and down in the middle. I never know who I'm going to spend time with, who is going to land in my path and who I will end up talking to. I do have a few regulars that we see right now more than others, but yesterday I saw the girl from Wicked in Hollywood, the real Elphaba who now happens to frequent a popular show that rhymes with Blee. That doesn't happen everyday. But those five little people living with me, they are a constant. And Jason.

Yesterday I talked to my brother while he was driving to West Virginia for another interview. Today I ran into my friend Tina at Target which ended up us ping ponging our children back and forth through the day. I ended up getting a spontaneous pep talk from her, one I didn't know I needed. Ya know when you are talking to a friend and your voice catches and you are all of the sudden trying not to cry cause what you are talking about just hit a nerve and here she was just dropping off my kids? You don't know that feeling? Oh well, it seems that happens to me alot. Alot meaning I never know when its going to happen and I like when conversations with friends are more than just surface level. Even if its embarrassing to start tearing up just during drop off. I need lots of pep talks. Brandon is really good at them too. Putting life in perspective. I remember my dad used to write me letters in college (yes, letters, remember those) and tell me to stop and smell the roses.

I think I sort of suck at giving them, since I'm kinda a rip off the band aid kind of person. Unless you are going to a job interview, then I'm your girl. My mom used to give great pep talks before job interviews and I learned from her. Too bad that doesn't come in my handy being a stay at home mom.

So to pay it forward, here is my pep talk to you. YOU CAN DO IT. YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR. GO EAT SOME CHOCOLATE AND DRINK A DIET COKE! GO READ THAT BOOK OR TAKE A NAP WHATEVER YOU HAVE BEEN NEEDING TO DO. LIFE IS SHORT, YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. EVERYBODY NEEDS A LAZY DAY EVERY THIRD DAY. WE AREN'T MAGICIANS, WE CAN'T DO EVERYTHING. WAY TO GO!

Does that help? Life is hard. But I'm a firm believer that a crappy day doesn't have to stay crappy. You can wake up with a headache, a sick husband who is leaving for work, no milk (and no idea what to give your kids for breakfast), messy house, kinks in your back from kids who snuck in your bed at nite even though they should stay in their own beds already! and it does not have to stay like that. Trust me. I think very slowly I'm starting to realize that. Oh good, just took me nearly 33 years.

Although I have yet to master at least one parent tantrum when all my kids are home, hey, sometimes its two.

We ended the day with McDonalds, watching Tangled, and yes we always dance to the song in the credits.

Truly the best pep talk is HERE. (and may or may not be what my talk in on Sunday, yes I know we have heard it lots, apparently not enough) I also loved his other one from Conference, President Uchtdorf is the king of pep talks.

p.s. and if you happen to be going for a job interview, seriously I got the goods.

p. p. s. we had rolls with butter and jam for breakfast.

Oh man, I have been thinking such similar thoughts lately...so much that you might see a similar post coming from me soon. You are a rockstar. And thanks for the pep talk. I think I will go have some chocolate and diet coke right now.

Thanks for that Brooke...now I don't feel so bad that I have had a lazy day but hopefully we will have a good ending to this day. I just have felt tired the last couple of days and bummed that I can't be more productive. I am going to eat some sweets and move forward. Thx!
