Being a Mormon

For me, being a Mormon means keeping the Sabbath day holy. Which means I don't shop on Sundays, go out to eat on Sunday. We also don't watch regular tv and movies (at least til about 9 p.m. or if its the Oscars or Superbowl, hey, don't judge)...but since we have 1 p.m. church, I've been looking for church stuff for my kids to watch on Sundays to fill some of the time. Growing up we would go on bike rides and walks, but right now we are still in new baby mode. Of course sometimes those get bent, like when cousins are in town, whatever, we are far from perfect.

This morning, hip hip hooray, we've been watching mormon.org and watching the members profiles. My kids love it. Especially this one or anyone where someone has an awesome scar or something cool like that.

A few months ago, when Gladys Knight was on American Idol, I said to Luke, 'hey, she's Mormon." And he was like, "There are famous Mormons?" Apparently I need to educate my kids that yes Mormons come from everyone, no set type and most don't live in Utah. There are more than 12 million and majority don't live in USA. That is one of my favorite things about the church.

So if you are in need of something for your kids to do on Sunday, go to Mormon.org.

I also like this one at the bottom and while I know its totally not the point, seeing all these amazing people, makes me feel like a piece of poo (i know i know, such a bad thought, not the point of what they are trying to do). but really like What do I do? but fortunately there is still a lot of life to live yet, and my little footprint will come.

I love being a Mormon, I'm proud of my heritage and to be apart of something so large and good in the world. But to be Mormon is to be an active one, requires much of you, we run it all ourselves and every person is needed to help. So better go back to preparing my lesson to teach those 9 year old boys :) Its my first sunday back with Ivy and I'm a bit nervous how it will go

I love those also. There is one of a guy from Alabama which is cool. The military guy rocks. I loved the painter wife also, prob fav lds painter. The one mom with cancer was very touching. Also I like Harley guy. On lds.org if you search they have a Mormon movies section. And kids scripture story videos section. And YouTube official church Mormon Messages are awesome.

So I totally stalk your blog all the time- being family makes that okay even though I've never met you right? Anyways, I too have just recently learned the brilliance of mormon.org and mormon messages on youtube (look for the "I am a Child of God" one, it's awesome for kids) for Sunday "tv" time, and I feel like a super great mother because I'm pretty sure each video we watch cancels out one episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse...

this is a great idea. esp. for older kids like Luke I'd think.
