Oh no she didn't....

So I did it. Our front door is bright blue. That holy crap what did I do blue. Like I wonder if my neighbors will petition against it blue. Bright bright blue.

Fortunately I'm fully exercising my ability to paint my house whatever heck I want, one advantage of not having a home owners association. Maybe it will start a trend.

Not sure how I feel about it. I started to panic with the first brush stroke but stayed committed and slathered on two coats. Luke helped.

Painting is a pain so its staying there a while. Until I figure out what to do.

Kinda reminds me of Cinderella's dress color on crack.

And this was the more masculine colors I picked it.

See, I've seen houses with bright blue doors over the years and filed it in the back of my head. This week I considered driving past some of them, but was too busy or they were too far away. Now I'm really curious to see what they looked like compared to the shade I picked. Oh me oh my.

Apparently I don't know the meaning of muted.

I still have paint on my hands.

Hmmm...Here is the free tip. Always, always buy test a few samples first.

Right now I'm thinking its just really freaking funny. Choosing to be amused. Like if you actually named your baby all the funny ones you come up with. Then you could chuckle every time you said your baby's name. So now I get to have a little chuckle every time I go get the mail.

It definitely looks better from far away. And as you walk towards, it appears to be glowing.

Now what to do with the rest of the 3/4 full gallon of exterior semi gloss bright blue paint with primer included.

Please tell you've read The Big Orange Spot. I'm totally imbracing my inner Mr. Plumbean right now.

Do you know that I was in Home Depot for 1 1/2 hours lamenting over what shade of blue and this is what I came up with? I am just laughing so hard right now. On the inside. Like laughing so hard as much as when I screw up Jason's hair when I cut it and then we have to end up buzzing it. And the whole time I dying laughing (and Jason is not)

What a good husband I have to let me paint our front door crazy colors. Maybe he is colorblind?

The blue door will go much better when I finally have flames on my car. Now that matches.

p.s. sorry guys no whole front door picture. i don't want to make it that easy for people to find my house. you'll have to come over :) I also realize this makes me a big hypocrite cause you could just scroll to the previous post that is right in front of my door and use your imagination. But in my defense, those were the only first day of school pictures Jason took so hopefully there the bad guys who want to kidnap my children will be extra dull this week.

That is hilarious. I think I need a photo of the whole door. Just to get the feel of it :)

That happened to me when we painted our main room yellow. Like really yellow. I'm so used to it now, but at first I was like, "woah, that's yellow". And you're right, you lament at the store for hours over so many shades of yellow. More than you ever knew possible.

Good for you for going for it. I have always wanted a red door. One day...

You crack me up! Yes we need to see the whole door.

I hate picking out paint colors. I'm going this week to pick out some sort of neutral color for the boys new room so its not pink or purple. I am dreading it for the very same reason that you were there for an hour and a half.

Love the Mr. PLumbean! It's the best book!

i think we have all made questionable paint choices in our houses. it is definitely a learning experience. i still have a bright orange bathroom that i swore was going to be muted orange. it has kind of grown on me.

And here I was trying to get to the bottom of the post in hopes of finding a full frontal :) Can't wait to see it. We're all about the red front doors!

it initial shock is always what gets you. like most other folks have said: you start to get used to it. i don't think it looks, but i guess it just depends on what the rest of the exterior looks like (not just the whole door, but the outer shell of your home). i do have say, though: KUDOS to you for being brave. so many shy away from bold color. good for you!

i love it! i'm glad you did it. i'm thinking blue for our front door too but that might then mean having to paint our shutters to match. not sure yet! i dig the bright colors tho. and i think it would go great in your neighborhood, the houses have so much character!
