Random thoughts of a camera-less woman

I lied. I do have 8 pictures left to take on my rite aid disposable camera, but I don't know if the dang thing is even going to work. Lets all cry boo hoo for another camera lost to the pacific sand that fell in my bag.

Okie Dokie folks, my blog is about to get real boring. Jason is playing basketball with his friend from CO who is visiting today and it was a regular cranky old Monday.

But I just have lament about what a big fat sucker I am because Deseret Book talked me into buying this lame movie. And chances are cause the mormon-world is so small, I might know someone who knows the someone who made this movie. And I'm sorry because I wanted to like it. Cause I'm always looking for movies that uplift and entertain my kids while teaching them a lesson but is still cool (tall order I know). But yours aint it. It was stupid. And don't worry, I wrote a review on my deseret pal's website to tell them so, cause they (no joke) called me up on the phone and guilt triped me into supporting lds (Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints) filmmakers and buying it over the phone. And since I am married to one and friends with a bunch of them, I am all for supporting. Okay, so nobody can MAKE you do anything, but they still called and I still bought.

Moral of the story is....I am a sucker.

And it is fact if you ask me to, I will probably buy it if I'm your friend. Which is why I rarely attend those "pimping your friends for the sake of your at home business" parties, one of which I was invited to this week.

The seemingly nice girl at Deseret book obviously lied to me when she saw this movie. Any movie recommendations are appreciated. Cause we only watch church movies on Sunday ....and important sports games as well. And I do think Sound of Music is a religious experience and can be considered a church movie, as well as Seven Brides for Seven brothers. But we haven't watched those lately and mostly watch these Liken the Bible movies which are great despite excessive singing (David sings about thinking about fighting Goliath, David sings about asking the king to fight Goliath, David sings while walking to go fight Goliath, David sings while fighting Goliath). My kids love them. And me too.

And just to make this the most random post ever, my friend Sheri in Costa Rica was telling me (via blog) that her daughter drew a picture of a sad girl from the song her mom sang...You are my sunshine. Which reminds me that my children have never heard the 'real' words to that song or Rock a bye baby. Cause when Luke was a baby, my neighbor Christine, told me new words and I adopted them as my own. Cause those songs are lame and depressing like they are so. So lets collectively change them as a whole world, why don't we? Changes in RED

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy, when skies are grey,
You'll never know dear, how much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away.

The other night dear, while I was sleeping,
I dreamt I held you in my arms,
And when I woke up, I found you near me,
So I held you close and smiled.

Rock a bye Baby, on the tree top
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,
(drop child slightly to dramatize falling...trust me they'll love it...even babies )
And Mommy will catch you cradle and all!
(daddy and brother can catch as well, you get the point)

And if you are wondering if I'm a slightly crazy, controling mom for changing long-standing lullabye songs, the answer is yes. Ain't no shame.

we love veggie tales. they are funny and have good lessons in them. the bible stories are funny to me b/c they change things so that they're not too serious or scary for kids. like in shadrac meshac and abindigo the "boss" is making everyone worship or actually sing a song to a giant chocolate bunny. So it also teaches that too much candy is bad. so don't feel bad for making the lyrics nicer. a lot of moms do it. there are a ton of veggie tales out there if you need to add to your sunday vault. unless you hate veggie tales. we just converted a few years ago. i also love some of their cds. they have some good old gospel songs that i used to sing at vacation bible school and at regular school before they stopped all that religiousness at school.

Friends shouldn't sell to friends!!

I know they did that to me too. I was soooooooo pissed. they were all trying to use the church and mission tricks to guilt trip me into buying something. I am like I hope you think about this when you give your temple recommend interview, because using the name of the Church trying to sell something for money is very bad. at that is coming from me, so they really do suck. i hope whoever came up with that idea gets fired.

hey well i like the Real words better. At least you are my sunshine. Which was a sad country song by Gene Autry the original country singer, about how his girl left him. yours are better i know, but still i am just like, it isn't a lullaby, it is a sad country song about a girl leaving her man.

When we have a concession stand at the entrance to the chapel then you can be guilted into buying lame movies, until then....tell them to jump! You are too nice. I hope you have a better day.

Double ditto on the Vegi Tales I love those movies! I also am a huge fan of the Muppet Show. Muppet Theater was every Thursday night of my child hood.

I can't blame you too much on changing the lyrics, most of those old songs are so disturbing! Like ring around the rosy being about the black plague, not to mention the original Grimm's Fairy Tales....Cinderella's step-sisters cut off their heels and toes to fit in the glass slippers. Yuck!

I can't believe they have resorted to calling people and guilting them into buying things. I think Mel got a call from them this week. Ish said a guy named David called and asked for her. When he told him she wasn't there, he said he'd call back later. Ish asked her who David was. She told him she didn't know. When she got home and check the Caller ID, there was a call from Deseret Books. I guess they are targeting the women. They haven't called me, yet. I hate telemarketing calls. That's the main reason I got Caller ID. If it says unknown, I don't answer it. So now if it says Deseret Books, I won't answer it either. Thanks for the warning.
