Hoorah, It's Over!

Holy hardness. Today at 8:03 a.m. I dove into the ocean with a wetsuit with another couple hundred crazy people and competed in my first triathlon at Pt. Magu Naval base. It was hard. The swimming was killer. Horrific. Terrifying. Disoriented. Panic. (want to sign up yet?) Gulps of seawater. Oh crap, wasn't I supposed to chew gum? Bag the crawl, hello breaststroke. Crawl, breaststroke, side stroke, crawl, float on back when necessary. I knew the swim was the hardest for me. But Whoa. The run was my strongest. 400 meter swim, 12 mile bike, 3.1 run. And I finished it. I can't believe it. Where do I begin with this story?

McCoy family. Great cheering. Supportive husband of all the extra workouts. Pt. Magu is about an hour away from our house. Scenic RV in back.

I had been imagining what it was going to be like when I was finished, and had teared up on runs thinking about my proud kids, but when I was on that bike I didn't care if anyone saw me. I didn't care if I was last place...which I was almost. I just wanted to finish. I just wanted it to be over. Who knows if I'll ever do it again. The pain is starting to fade, just like having a baby. I'm pooped now. Took a 2 hour nap when I got home. Thanks to my brother for all the tips and for telling me all the time it didn't matter how fast I went. That helped. Slow and steady.

Here are our times. Second column is swim time, third column bike time, fourth column run time. Now I have something to work towards. Now I know what the heck I'm getting my stupid self into.

My sweet baby and I. Warning: No makeup and sun spots.

Inspiring women. Everyone has a story. Sad one of us couldn't do it. I missed her very much, but totally understand. Claire in grey. Julie the ring leader and winner of us in black. This girl tore it up. She was the only one who had done it before and should be a salesman for being able to talk us into doing it with her. Christie in white and pink. Rachel the hottie not pictured.

Pt. Magu. So right as we are about to start on the beach, I see a couple of guys, around 5 or so with one foot. Just amazing. How cool, they were awesome. Thanks to all the strangers who cheered me on. It really helped. Thanks for that hard core guy who lapped me on the bike who told me way to go. We saw some sweet racing bikes. I'm glad I stuck with my slow and trusty though.

Oh, and everybody should know that I did slow you down at the end when you slowed down to run with me and that you had the youngest baby of all the athletes!! Way to go crazy McCoy (only in a good way).

Hats off to you Brooke!

If there ever were a good excuse not to swim, bike and run a billion miles, RA would be it. You did it anyway. I think that's cool. You put lazy people like me to shame. that deserves an Evan's woohoo!

Brooke, You are by far the toughest person I know. That is so awesome that you did that. Forget the RA, which is big, but you freaking had a baby like three months ago and you got bit by a HUGE dog a couple of WEEKS ago. That would have been MORE than enough excuse for me to not do it. You're amazing. Congrats!!!
