Storing food is cool....

Aperture my eye! We just point and shoot! Just kidding, one day we'll be fancy too!

Obviously I'm not the only one excited to have a camera again. Good thing its indestructible.

What I really wanted was a picture of her smashing on baylie's face, cause i'm a mean mom like that, but we'll have to settle for sweet innocent darby and baylie is wondering what happened to the torture sister who is always squashing her...or bracing for the next one.
Halloween is year round here and one of our favorite holidays. luke was begging to wear this shirt to the park, but it was dang hot enough. Friends tip: Don't go to the park...its terrible. Too hot, sweating, even the kids were begging to go home. Jacket weather come soon!
And here comes the star of the show. Our ward (local church) sealer. To seal mylar bags. (that rats can eat thru so watch out) But they are waterproof. The sealer is not mine, but the church's, but somehow its been camped out at my house for the last six months. Don't you like the shot of part of my butt? Luke took this one...
Okay, so if you are not familiar, you take those shiny bags, dump some food into it, and seal it. And then when the big earthquake comes or whatever disaster (or your hubby gets downsized) you will be ready. BE PREPARED. And only store what you eat...which is why these pretty baggies are filled with WHITE FLOUR. Cause wheat flour has a shorter shelf life and really, if something bad happens, I just want to eat cakes, and good bread, right? okay, so i've stored healthy stuff too....and a large supply of hot chocolate that I hope I can turn into fudge. Get educated on why the Mormons store massive amounts of food HERE I don't have a year's supply, but am a big fan of the 'just do your best' camp. Its a fun camp to be in. Less stressful. Especially with my 1100 square foot house and non air conditioned garage which they say is crap for storage...boo hoo.

Don't I have a pretty helper?

It wasn't so bad to clean up, really. Next thing I'm going to do is Sugar...

Yeah for food storage! I think our ward is suppose to be getting a canner. They had one years ago, but it disappeared. I have some wheat that my parents bought when I was a baby, so it's 35 years old. They say it could still be good. I don't have a way to reseal it if I open it, so I'll just have to wait until I need it to find out if it's any good. I'm trying to store things that I would more realistically eat. I would have to be pretty hungry to eat wheat.

I am impressed you are doing food storage!! Good that you are only storing what you eat. I have thrown out tons of stuff that went bad that we never ate. I figure we will store medicines/bandages and then we will help others and they will feed us : )

I am in the "don't do anything and hope your friends and family have enough food storage to sustain your family as well" camp. I should join yours instead.

this is a great post for me.
i am really trying to get into food storage.
i start feeling so overwhelmed.
if i want only what we eat, does this mean i have to have a weekly menu, and then rotate the food? aghhhhh!
can't i just buy in bulk at costco?
if i buy lots of bulk then i have to buy those containers that seal, or do the bags right?
see why i haven't started?
you are a great example.

Goin' to the cannery tomorrow!!!
I wish more people had the same excitement over it, I feel like the crazy lady in my ward that keeps pushing food storage.(my calling) Hate, hate, hate those mylar bags lots of times they don't seal very well. I won't even let people use them at the cannery. Do you have a cannery there?

how long is that thing going to be at your house? I would love to come use it if it will be there a while. You truly are a great example...
