I am not normally a pessimist but...

We are set to go visit my parents in Bama in 3 weeks. I can hardly wait. But it seems too good to be true. And my brother is going to be there and my sister and her family coming down. If only Lindsey and our trips were matched up.

It will be our longest trip yet and we are hoping to run away (right mom?) to go to the beach without the kids. Maybe we just won't tell them and then they will look for us in the morning. Especially since my mom just went to the beach and called to tell me how much better her beach is than ours. Maybe I should have taken her to Zuma instead of Santa Monica...oops.

I have been lectured many times by friend
s (ahhemm...Claire) that we should be taking more exciting vacations and leaving our children with the grandparents as much as we can. But Jason and I could think of nothing better than 1) him not being at work and 2) swimming in a pool. Lake Eufala has the warmest water and I love water skiing. Okay, mostly I love to get up on the skiis and prove to myself that I can. Seriously its like bath water...Jason hates it. He only feels at home in a lake when he should be wearing a wet suit...its that Washington skin of his. He says its not refreshing.

Happy late Fourth of July

We rocked out to Neil Diamond's America, Bruce's Born in the USA, and Lee Greenwood's I'm proud to be an American.
We went to Zuma beach and sadly I think I'm converted. The best debate: Santa Monica verses Zuma (Malibu).

Us McCoys are loyal to Santa Monica cause its closest and the warmest...BUT it has the longest walk on the sand to the shore.

Zuma you can park so close to the shore and its so pretty there. The waves were NOT too big and once my legs went numb the water felt great. But you cannot get there faster than 45 minutes. But its a scenic 45 minutes instead of being trapped on the 405. Any voters? LA only? No snoby comments from you gulf shore people.

But after my beach camping extravaganza (which is so close to where the fires are now!) I ordered a Wonder Wheeler Deluxe after seeing about 5 other moms with them and hauling all their junk. Just waiting for it to come. Do you think I can stick Baylie in it too? Probably not. (I don't know why my font is so big and its really annoying!)

Snobby comment from the Gulf. Come see the white sand and only a 1 minute walk to the shore (with kids). Only hazard is jellyfish...and sharks if you go the 2nd sandbar but I doubt you'll be out there with little ones anyway. We just go back from Seagrove (close to PCB) and the water temperature is perfect! Hope you get the chance to go..
Also, Lake Eufaula. Wonderful for skiing. We went there this weekend and it is just like bath water. Go out in the big water because they say for some reason the snakes and alligators don't travel out that far. I think they say it to keep my mind at peace. :)

I have to vote for Zuma. Mostly for psychological reasons, the drive actually makes me feel like I'm escaping the city and the scenery is so much nicer!
That wheely thing is genius! Where did you get it?

I am a Zuma fan. It's worth the drive. And so pretty, and if you hit it right you won't be in much traffic. I love your beach cart, too.

I'm a Zuma Fan too. Santa Monica is dirtier and so much more crowded. (From my experience anyway)

Zuma wins!! Walking on the sand and in the water is less scarier; fewer homeless and druggies.

have fun in bama. we never leave the kids with the grandparents and take a trip. maybe we should. i had to once for five days to go find a place to live in monterey and i cried wanting to go back by the second or third day. if cory's at home with the kids i don't feel so bad. i came here last summer for a week and looked for a house with Carrie and I was fine.
I've only been to newport beach for about a minute when we went to disneyland. Monterey and Carmel are nice but cold water. Santa cruz was dirty.

Nice Beach Cart thingy! Your kids will probably be having so much fun with your Mom and Dad that they won't even miss you. There's just so many fun things to do at their house. I'm bummed that I'll miss seeing you. I'll be living up with Christy and her gang in UT.

I mostly went to Zuma growing up and OH how I miss it!! BUT...there is this little spot just south on the PCH in Malibu that is a very uncrowded (unlike Zuma) that we discovered in High School, it's better than Zuma or Santa Monica hands down and there is parking nearby. Next time I am in town I'll have to show you where it is. It's real close to Pepperdine.

You should definitely take at least a little vacation from the kids even if it is one or two days. We do that and the kids are having so much fun that they don't miss us. Jason should go with Jared to Bear Lake where the water is freezing and I will come with you to the bath water and go water skiing. We had a great time at the beach with you. Let's do it again!

For sure Zuma! Santa Monica is closer but it's dirtier. I think Zuma is beautiful! And, I too love the cart thing. Could you post on your blog where you got it from?

Should I sing a song...you and I have had this debate for years. You know exactly where the Kirbys stand on this....Zuma, Zuma, Zuma. I still don't get why you like Santa Monica. I am excited for you guys to get a fun vacation.
